What does EEAT stand for?

EEAT stands for Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness – in other words, Experience, Expertise, Authority and Credibility. Google uses the term to describe high-quality content.

The four parts are as follows:

  • Experience: Does the author of the text have personal experience of the subject, and are they creating something new and unique?
  • Expertise – expertise: Is there relevant knowledge and expertise behind the content?
  • Authoritativeness – authority: Is the person or company a recognised authority in this field?
  • Trustworthiness – credibility: Can the reader trust the information and the sender?

EEAT is not a single ranking factor, but it is a good way of understanding which content is actually valuable and reliable.

Why does it matter who writes it?

Just as we mention in our article “Avoid the 10 most common SEO mistakes”Content that lacks personal experience or expertise risks being filtered out. The reason for this is quite simple:

Imagine two articles about roof renovation. One is written by an experienced roofer who enthusiastically showcases their own projects and real-life examples. The other is a generic AI-generated text that summarises information from other websites. Which one would you personally trust the most?

This is the difference that EEAT is all about. Because Google wants to help users find content that is To ensure that it is useful, relevant and reliable, it is important that Companies clearly state who is responsible for the text or content and what experience and expertise the author has.

How to promote EEAT on your website

AI makes it easier than ever to produce content, which means the volume of text online is increasing. It is therefore becoming increasingly important to offer something that AI cannot copy quite so easily. Your company can easily do this by:

Show experience. Use your own images, customer case studies, examples and experiences rather than simply repeating information that is already available online.

Make the most of your expertise. Introduce relevant writers and experts, and describe their expertise, qualifications or experience. Feel free to link to their LinkedIn profiles.

Build authority. Publish high-quality content regularly within your company’s field and showcase, for example, partnerships, reviews and other relevant achievements.

Build trust. Provide clear contact details and company information. Also cite your sources when the content is based on, for example, research, statistics or information from public authorities.
